New Cambodian King Speaks Czech

In case you were looking for further proof that Czech influence is absolutely everywhere in the world today, here's something from the front page of today's MF Dnes: The new king of Cambodia speaks fluent Czech. This short news-nugget is translated by me.

New Cambodian King Speaks Czech

Norodom Sihamoni, who was chosen yesterday as the new king of Cambodia, has a heartfelt relationship with Prague and fell in love with Czech culture. He is probably the only world leader who speaks fluent Czech.

He lived in the then-Czechoslovakia from age 9, in 1962, and studied ballet until 1975, first at conservatory and then at AMU (the Academy of Musical Arts). Norodom Sihamoni also performed at the National Theatre, and as a 13-year-old danced in The Nutcracker.
